Prestigious award for NRP 77 researcher Mondada

Prof. Francesco Mondada is the first Swiss person ever to be awarded the Polytechnik Prize.

The Polytechnik Prize is the most important research prize in didactics. The German Polytechnic Society Foundation awards it to outstanding scientists who do research and development work for good STEM teaching. On Friday 25 November, Professor Francesco Mondada from EPFL was the first Swiss person ever to receive this prize in Frankfurt. He achieved first place among 42 submitted projects.

"We have received other prizes before, but never on this scale; this is truly an honour and certainly an unforgettable moment," said Francesco Mondada at the award ceremony.

Francesco Mondada conducts research on informational thinking as part of the National Research Programme 77 "Digital Transformation". His project, "Assessing the development of computational thinking skills through an intelligent tutoring system: an exploratory study in the cantons of St Gallen, Vaud and Ticino", looks at how well students have already mastered problem-solving methodology with digital tools and develops instruments to measure these skills.
