The Synthesis Is Out – 12 Considerations on Digital Transformation in Switzerland

NRP 77 has spent five years investigating digital transformation in Switzerland – and now presents its synthesis report: with 12 concrete considerations for policymakers, business and society.

Digital transformation is fundamentally reshaping our society, economy and democracy – opportunities and risks are closely intertwined. The National Research Programme "Digital Transformation" (NRP 77 ) has been studying this development for five years. The synthesis report is now available.

46 research teams have investigated digital transformation in Switzerland through concrete projects. The focus was on three key areas: education and learning, the labour market and the economy, and trustworthiness and governance.

Twelve Considerations for a Responsible Digital Transformation

The NRP 77 Steering Committee has consolidated the key findings from this research into a comprehensive synthesis report. At its heart: twelve concrete, evidence-based considerations designed to serve as a factual basis for forthcoming decisions in society and politics.

The considerations are addressed to policymakers, public administration, business and civil society and cover the full spectrum of digital transformation. They outline what is needed for the transition to succeed: for example, digital skills should be fostered systematically throughout life and across all levels of education. Digital solutions should also be designed inclusively, removing rather than reinforcing structural barriers. Overall, NRP 77 demonstrates that digital transformation offers great opportunities for Switzerland, but that measures are necessary to ensure the entire population can benefit from them.

Exploring the twelve considerations through multimedia (videos, podcasts, chatbot)

An interactive website has been developed specifically for the findings of NRP 77. It accompanies the synthesis report digitally and makes the 12 considerations accessible at different levels — presented in a clear, practical, and multimedia format.

The website features videos on the findings of the research teams, podcasts with voices from practice — from specialists, those affected, and decision-makers — as well as a chatbot providing evidence-based answers to questions about digital transformation in Switzerland. The chatbot is based exclusively on the findings of NRP 77 and delivers reliable, source-based information.
