In autumn 2026, the Parliamentary Group on Digital Sustainability (Parldigi) examined the findings of NRP 77. This was one of many events focusing on the results of the research programme.

How is artificial intelligence changing the labour market and the education system? And how can policymakers support this development without unnecessarily restricting innovation? These questions were the focus of an event at the Federal Parliament, jointly organised by Parldigi and NRP 77 on 23 September 2026.

Following a welcome address by Min Li Marti, SP National Councillor and Co-President of Parldigi, Abraham Bernstein, as Chair of the Steering Committee, presented the findings of the National Research Programme ‘Digital Transformation’ (NRP 77).

Findings from five years of research

Over the course of five years, NRP 77 has investigated how the digital transformation is changing Switzerland. The learnings from 46 research projects, with a total budget of around 30 million Swiss francs, were incorporated into twelve key recommendations for decision-makers.

Discussions with parliamentarians highlighted just how relevant the findings are.

In his project presentation, researcher Michael Siegenthaler (KOF, ETH Zurich) pointed out that generative AI is already making its presence felt in the Swiss labour market, particularly in occupations heavily exposed to AI and amongst those starting their careers.

Using the DigitTras II project as an example, Maria-Luisa Schmitz demonstrated how pupils and teachers at upper secondary level engage with AI, and why teachers themselves need sufficient media and AI literacy to do so. The discussion also addressed the question of which skills people will still need to master when technology is able to take over certain tasks.

The event at the Federal Parliament as one example among many

The event, organised in collaboration with Parldigi, is representative of the many other activities currently taking place to disseminate the research findings. The findings and insights arising from the National Research Programme ‘Digital Transformation’ (NRP 77) are being incorporated into expert panels, publications and round-table discussions.

Dissemination of research findings both offline and online

In addition to being shared in person, the findings of the National Research Programme ‘Digital Transformation’ (NRP 77) are also available online at any time:
